Growing Instructions for Zone 5 Canada:
Growing Zones: Suitable for USDA hardiness zones 4 to 9.
Planting Time: Sow seeds outdoors 2-4 weeks before the last frost date for spring harvest, or start seeds indoors for transplanting.
Sun Requirements: Prefers full sun but can tolerate some shade, especially in hotter months.
Soil Preparation/Fertilizing: Requires well-drained, rich soil. Incorporate compost into the soil before planting to enhance fertility.
Spacing: Space plants 10-12 inches apart to allow for adequate growth.
Watering: Water regularly to keep the soil evenly moist, especially during dry spells.
Days to Harvest: Typically ready to harvest in 30-60 days after sowing, depending on the variety.
Harvest: Harvest outer leaves as needed, allowing the inner leaves to continue growing for future harvests. Cut leaves with scissors to avoid damaging the plant.
To ensure plants arrive safe due to winter here in Zone 5, we will ship plants in May 2026.
To ensure the growing success of plants, please ensure to harden off plants before planting outdoors.
Seedlings will be shipped in plug packs or 2 - 3 inch pots. Photos are reflective of plants growing on the farm or examples of grown seedlings, not what will be shipped or picked up.
