Bunching Onion (Allium fistulosum), also known as scallions or green onions, is a perennial plant belonging to the onion family. It is characterized by its long, green leaves and small white bulbs that are not fully developed. Bunching onions have a milder flavor compared to regular onions and are often used in salads, soups, and as garnishes.

Growing Zones:

5-9 (perennial), 2-4 (annual), 10-11(annual)

Planting Time:

Plant seeds indoors 6 to 8 weeks before last frost. Direct sow seeds in early spring or late fall for best results. Seedlings can be planted outdoors early spring

Sun Requirements:

Requires full sun, ideally 6-8 hours a day.

Soil Preparation/Fertilizing:

Prepare well-draining soil enriched with organic matter. Use a balanced fertilizer to promote healthy growth.

Spacing:

Space plants about 6 inches apart to allow for proper growth and airflow.

Watering:

Keep the soil consistently moist, especially during dry spells, but avoid waterlogging.

Days to Harvest:

Approximately 50-70 days from planting.

Harvest:

Harvest by cutting the outer stalks at the base. Leave the inner stalks to continue growing.
