Growing watermelon can be a rewarding experience, especially during the summer months. Here are some essential tips to help you successfully cultivate this delicious fruit.

Soil Preparation

Watermelons thrive in well-drained, sandy loam soil with a pH between 6.0 and 6.8. It's advisable to amend the soil with organic matter, such as compost, to improve fertility.

Planting

Watermelons should be planted in warm soil after the last frost. Sow seeds about 1 inch deep and spaced 3-4 feet apart in rows.

Watering

Consistent watering is crucial, especially during fruit development. Aim to provide about 1-2 inches of water per week, ensuring that the soil remains moist but not waterlogged.

Harvesting

Your watermelon is ready to harvest when the tendril closest to the fruit turns brown, and the bottom spot turns yellow. Cut the fruit with a sharp knife.
